Red Sneaker Day Spotlight: Hugh Wilson
Red Sneaker Days provides a “day” when everyone wears their red sneakers/shoes (or anything red) and participates together to raise awareness for the dangers of food allergies. The goal is not only to increase education and awareness to the communities of those suffering with food allergies, but just as importantly, to educate those who are not directly affected by them.
Hugh is a Red Sneakers Ambassador. Hugh used the RSFO Food Allergy Presentation about food allergies to educate the middle school advisory groups at his school with four separate presentations over the course of two days. He taught his school advisory groups about sensitivities and the severity of anaphylaxis, shared about his own food allergies, asked the crowd if anyone had any food allergies and shared Oakley’s story. During his presentation, Hugh demonstrated how to administer epinephrine using both his EpiPen and Auvi-Q trainer. Following the presentation, he gave the teachers at his school the RSFO Information and Anaphylaxis cards in English and Spanish so they would know what to do in an anaphylactic emergency and handed out the RSFO bracelets that were sent to him.
