Red Sneaker Day Spotlight: Noelle Nelson
Red Sneaker Days provides a “day” when everyone wears their red sneakers/shoes (or anything red) and participates together to raise awareness for the dangers of food allergies. The goal is not only to increase education and awareness to the communities of those suffering with food allergies, but just as importantly, to educate those who are not directly affected by them.
Noelle is a Red Sneaker Ambassador. Noelle hosted a Red Sneakers for Oakley “Buck-A-Stuff” Day at her school in Los Angeles, California.
“A ‘Buck-A-Stuff’ is what we do at our school where students pay a dollar to wear free dress and in our case red sneakers and teal! First, I created an informational video with friends about food allergies and Red Sneakers for Oakley to promote the event. Our video included Oakley’s story, facts about food allergies, and the importance of food allergy education. Then, on the day of the event, students paid a dollar to wear teal clothes and red sneakers to support food allergy awareness. Several of my friends and I handed out Red Sneakers for Oakley bracelets and teal ribbons that people in my community helped put together for the event. It was awesome to see so many students wearing teal or red ribbons for food allergies! At break, we took photos in the red sneakers and teal clothes and I also gave Red Sneakers for Oakley stickers and informational cards to a few of the staff at my school. I am so glad that we raised awareness for food allergies during my Red Sneakers for Oakley event!”
