Look For These When Buying Dairy-Free Foods
While cow’s milk is the most common dairy allergen for food allergic individuals, many people can also have an allergic response to other animal milks, such as those from goat, sheep, or buffalo.
But it is not enough to restrict the consumption of milk alone when diagnosed with a dairy allergy. Any product that contains milk also needs to be avoided. Never assume a product is safe to eat without checking the label on it. Read EVERY label and check for the following:
👉 Contains Milk
Usually, food labels show the word milk within parenthesis next to an ingredient that comes from or is made from milk. For example, an ingredient list on the label may say cream (milk). Also, look for the following ingredients, because their presence also means that a product contains milk:
Butter, butter fat, buttermilk
Casein and whey
Cream cheese
Cheese (variety of types)
Ghee
