Red Sneaker Day Spotlight: Kayla Doherty

Red Sneaker Days provides a “day” when everyone wears their red sneakers/shoes (or anything red) and participates together to raise awareness for the dangers of food allergies. The goal is not only to increase education and awareness to the communities of those suffering with food allergies, but just as importantly, to educate those who are not directly affected by them.

“We hosted a free Allergy Awareness event where people could sign up and be trained on allergy education, BASIC adult and infant CPR, choking, and EpiPen administration. We had a CPR trainer/firefighter give in person presentation and hands on training of all of these topics to 50 people.

I also went through the RFSO presentation, and incorporated a few raffle games for people to tell me what the Top Allergens are, and also showed them two boxes of a store brand granola bar and a name brand and showed the different how one contained egg and one did not. We had a interactive, fun environment that went from 11am-2pm. We offered both allergen friendly pastries and regular pastries with coffees and waters.

We passed out the RSFO cards and asked for donations via the QR code. We suggested in lieu of a fee for the training for a donation to RSFO.”
